Who we are and what we work for

Mission

A tradition that builds character

The mission of the Wold Karate League is to make karate an accessible, safe and character-building sport for every child in the country, whether they live in Yerevan or a border village.

We do not measure our work by medals alone. A child who comes to the dojo should learn discipline, respect for the opponent and responsibility for their own choices — qualities that will serve them far beyond the tatami.

The League operates under the regulations of the WKF and the European Karate Federation, trains referees and coaches, holds national tournaments and ensures the national team's participation on the international stage.

About

History

Karate came to Armenia in the late 1970s, with the first informal groups training in the gyms of Yerevan schools. For many years the sport grew through the efforts of enthusiasts, without unified rules or state support.

In 1992, right after independence, the Armenian Karate League was founded, uniting the country's largest clubs and enabling Armenian athletes to compete in European championships. The first international medals arrived in the mid-1990s.

Today the League brings together five gyms across the country — in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor and Abovyan — more than 600 regularly training athletes and dozens of qualified coaches. The national team consistently represents Armenia at the European and World Championships.

What the emblem means

The league's emblem is a short story about what we value.

  • The golden ringThe unity of the league: a single circle within which coaches, athletes and gyms stand side by side.
  • Five petalsThe Olympic colours and the five continents. Karate is a common language in every corner of the world.
  • The spiral motionThe petals close into a swirl — a sign of ceaseless training and forward motion.
