Biography
Arman Poghosyan started practicing karate in 1983 in Masis, in the years when the sport did not yet have official status. His first serious success came in 1986 — a gold medal at the national championship in kumite.
In 1994, 1995 and 1996, as he was training individually in Moscow, he competed at the World and European tournaments under the Russian flag and took 1st and 2nd honorary places at the World and European events.
Multiple gold medalist of international tournaments
International Master of Sports
Master's degree from the Institute of Physical Culture
Since 1999 he has fully devoted himself to coaching. Among his students are medalists of the European youth championship and dozens of members of the Armenian national team. Since 2020 he has led the Armenian Karate League.
Coaching principles
He bases his work on clean technique and gradual loading. He is convinced that chasing results in children's groups harms both health and the desire to stay in the sport for a long time.
Basic technique without haste in the first two years
Mandatory physical conditioning at every session
Competitive experience only when the athlete is ready
Respect for the opponent, the referee and the hall as a non-negotiable condition
He runs coach qualification courses and refereeing seminars on WKF rules in the regions of the republic.
